Biography
Isola Tong was born in Quezon City, Philippines, in 1987. She received her B.S. in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas, her M.F.A from the University of California. She has taught at the University of the Philippines, University of California and De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the LA Artcore (USA), Het Nieuwe Instituut (NL), Vargas Museum (PH), Calle Wright (PH), Post-Territory Ujeongguk (KR), Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (SL), and the Swab Art Fair (ES). She has participated in residencies and research initiatives with Collecting Otherwise - Het Nieuwe Instituut (NL) and the Norris Center for Natural History (USA).
She has written scholarly articles and science fiction that have been featured in TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, Queer Spaces: An Atlas of LGBTQ+ Places and Stories, Shift Space, among others. Her work had been featured in Hyperallergic, ArtAsiaPacific, Art and Art Market and Aura Asia Art Project.
She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the College of Arts and Letters, Department of Art Studies, University of the Philippines, Diliman.
